Retailers today collaborate with suppliers and share sales information in order to increase profits. The most common source of shared data is driven from UPCs scanned at checkout registers - Point of Sale (POS) data. POS data are sent electronically from retailers in transactions known as EDI 852 and EDI 867 or through vendor portals in files generated from their data warehouses. The EDI 852 transmits sales figures that can be as specific as by the store or as general as the chain, while the EDI 867 contains distributor invoices or shipments. They update CPGs automatically as often as daily or as infrequently as monthly. For details on the information supplied by each retailer, see our Retailer POS Source pages. (Login required.)
Some retailers even share replenishment or forecasting information with their suppliers using the EDI 830 or through their portals. Store information, including open/close dates and store to DC alignments are delivered with EDI 816 transactions or flat files. Velocity will collect all this and more, and integrate it with your other data sources.
